A NOT FOR profit online broadcasting network is being launched for Shetland, later this week.
The team behind Zetcast, Shetlanders Marvin Smith, John Smith and Bryan Peterson, aim to provide a valuable resource to the Shetland community whilst promoting Shetland culture, music and arts throughout the world.
Their website at www.zetcast.com will allow users to download and listen to podcasts, which are analogous to pre-recorded radio shows.
Bryan Peterson said: “Most of the current shows are music orientated, but we have a wide range of content in the pipeline. The shows, which are all produced by locals, are recorded and uploaded, and folk can access them via the website.”
“The beauty of podcast technology is that anyone with a microphone and a computer can record a show, and anyone with an Internet connection and set of speakers can listen to them. We call it citizen driven media: made by the community, for the community.”
Mr Peterson and Mr Smith are also behind the isles’ very popular online community portal at www.shetlink.com
The new website will go live on Friday. ZetCast is holding a competition in which you can win an iPod portable music player, as donated by the Shetland Mac Shop.
Details of how to enter can be accessed on the site’s holding page at www.zetcast.com
